From one mother to another . . .
As a family doctor who delivers babies and counsels moms-to-be, I thought that I knew everything about motherhood and its challenges; that is, until I had a child of my own. I've always prided myself on my sense of style and assumed that maintaining this throughout my pregnancy would be a breeze, but alas, I was sadly mistaken...
Don't get me wrong, I had heard time and time again about the challenges of finding affordable yet stylish maternity wear and had vowed to do my best to get around this. By wearing cotton-lycra tops that stretched to suit my form, I thought I was ahead of the game, but something always seemed to be missing...
I wanted to make a statement. Sure, my ballooning figure exclaimed "I'm pregnant", but that wasn't the only message that I wanted to share. I wanted the world to know how excited I was to have a new life growing inside of me. I wanted them to know that despite the back pain and fatigue I couldn't be happier to be part of this miracle. When I couldn't find any affordable tops that could accomplish this and still carry my signature style, MDIVA CREATIONS was born.
I needed to let people know what was in my heart. I wanted them to celebrate with me. Several times, I would see expectant mothers struggling with their morning sickness and varicose veins and think, "if only there was a way of reminding yourself of what a gift motherhood is and to keep you focused on the bigger, more positive picture". The solution came to me in the MDIVA logo.
At first glance the logo looks like a flower; a symbol of the beauty that each woman possesses and the product of a seed being planted. When you look closer however, you see a mother embracing an infant. In this way, it serves as a subtle reminder of how important it is to embrace each day with your child as a marvel, from that first positive pregnancy test, to the day you hear that first cry, and everyday thereafter. The marriage of these two themes reveals the coming together of a new chapter of your life. A chapter that doesn't have to leave beauty and style behind but allows them to live in harmony with motherhood.

As I mentioned before, I am constantly realizing new challenges of motherhood; from nursing in public to finding comfy clothes that go from day to night. We at MDIVA are already in the process of finding solutions to these challenges and in the near future, will offer fun nursing tops, dresses and other items to help you express your inner diva while providing you with both flexibility and function.
Now that I've gone from medical DIVA to mommy DIVA, I'm loving every minute of it. I understand now more than ever that every aspect of motherhood is a gift. From the swollen ankles to the inevitable cleavage that may have been previously non-existent. It's a beautiful, sexy and fabulously fun time in a woman's life. A time to treat yourself and indulge in the things that make you smile. |
